A GNU/Linux distribution
Nexradix is a GNU/Linux operating system that is specifically designed to be easily and freely usable and redistributable, even for commercial purposes. You can download it for free, or you can purchase a physical copy via the Twisted Lincoln, Inc. online store. Requirements: What's New in This Release: [ read full changelog ]
Once you have the ISO image on your system, you'll need to burn it to a DVD. Since an ISO image represents the full contents of a disc within one file, you'll need to use your DVD burning software's "image burning" functionality, rather than simply coping the single file to a DVD. This can typically be found within your software's menu system as "burn disc image" or "burn DVD from image," or something similar. If you need assistance in creating your disc, feel free to contact us via the official Twisted Lincoln, Inc. discussion forums.
· Penium III 600mhz or better CPU
· 384mb of Ram
· 4gb free disk space
· Based on 9.10 (karmic) upstream release.
· Added built-in support for VirtualBox OSE Guest Additions -- the Nexradix DVD will now have full guest support when running in VirtualBox derivatives.
· Added a basic sound theme, allowing for sounds to play in response to various system events. The sound theme has been turned off by default, but can be enabled via the sound preferences application.
· Added the BTNX custom mouse buttons application, which provides the ability to define custom actions to extra mouse buttons.
· Added a "Create shortcut on desktop" right click option when selecting files.
· Updated Icedove to version 3.0, which is a major update providing a variety of new features, including tabbed email support.
· Added a temperature sensors applet to the list of available panel plug-ins.
· Added smbfs support, allowing you to mount samba file shares at boot time via /etc/fstab.
· Added the Gitso remote support utility. This application allows you to easily help another Nexradix user solve a problem by literally taking control of their desktop remotely. Gitso is very simple for the person needing help -- they need only enter an IP address provided by the support person. No router configuration or settings changes are needed for the person being helped. The person giving support need only open port 5500 on their router.
· Added the Easystroke gesture recognition application, allowing you to define custom actions based on on-screen gestures. Due to this addition, Nexradix can now be more easily used on tablets.
· All remmnants of Mono have been removed, making Nexradix completely C# free. Unfortunately, the Giver LAN file exchange program had to be removed in order to make this possible. Users wanting this functionality can still install Giver from the repositories.
· Replaced the gsmartcontrol SMART monitoring application with gnome-disk-utiilty, which provides the same features, but adds the ability to easily format and manage removable drives such as memory cards and flash drives.
· Synaptic Package Manager (and APT) is now set not to consider recommended packages as dependencies by default.
· Updated the rpmtodeb utility - RPM files can now be converted to DEB packages simply by double-clicking on them.
· Added the Scribus desktop publishing application.
· Added a preferences menu option that provides the ability to toggle on and off simple desktop effects based on Metacity's compositing feature.
· Added support for NFS file sharing, allowing more flexible options when sharing files between GNU/Linux systems.
· Replaced the Flyback backup utility with a newer (and very similar) utility called Backintime
· Added a new selection of desktop wallpaper
· Added an informative slideshow that runs during the installation
· Ext4 is now the default filesystem on new installs
· Ext2Fsd driver was removed from the base DVD directory, as it does not support ext4
· Nexradix can now be completely de-branded in an automated fashion. Users that wish to distribute an installed Nexradix system without any of the Twisted Lincoln, Inc. branding can now simply install the "generic-branding" package in the repositories, and all Nexradix trademarks will be removed and replaced with generic ones. Note that at this time this process does not change the default homepage or bookmarks within Iceweasel, which will have to be changed within /etc/skel if the distributor wishes.
· ...and a variety of other bug fixes and improvementsdownload
